Our sound poems
Some of the class enjoyed using the new computer suite and we wrote these poems based on 'The Sound Collector' poem by Roger McGough. We tried to use onamatopoeic words.
My Sound Collector Poem
A stranger called this morning
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried them away.
The burping of the baby
The popping of the popcorn
The crashing of the jackpot
The flapping of the bird.
The snoring of the old man
The slurping of the drinks
The flushing of the toilet
The cracking of the plates.
A stranger called this morning
He didn’t leave his name
Left us only silence
Life will never be the same.

My Sound Collector Poem
A stranger called this morning
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried them away.
The purring of the cat
The burping of the baby
The hissing of the snake
The barking of the dog.
The crying of the children
The knocking of the door
The giggling of my dad
The banging on the floor.
A stranger called this morning
He didn’t leave his name
Left us only silence
Life will never be the same.

My Sound Collector Poem
A stranger called this morning
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried them away.
The popping of the popcorn
The sizzling of the pan
The swishing of the bath
The purring of the cat.
The pattering of the rain
The roaring of the kettle
The ticking of the clock
The crying of the baby.
A stranger called this morning
He didn’t leave his name
Left us only silence
Life will never be the same.

My Sound Collector Poem
A stranger called this morning
Dressed all in black and grey
Put every sound into a bag
And carried them away.
The squeaking of the hamster
The purring of the cat
The creaking of the floor boards
The clashing of the plates.
The slurping of the drinks
The giggling of the children
The swishing of the tree
The whinging of the baby.
A stranger called this morning
He didn’t leave his name
Left us only silence
Life will never be the same.

The slurping of the drinks
The fluttering of the bat
The crying of the baby.
The creaking of the stairs
The clicking of the clock
The whispering of the phone
The pattering of the rain.

Capacity
We are learning to measure capacity and read the scales on measuring jugs. It would be great if the children could practise measuring at home using millilitres and litres - perhaps a bathtime activity!
